YAQUINA BAY LIGHTHOUSE STATE PARK is Newport's oldest wooden building. It was
built in 1871 and operated only 3 years as a lighthouse. It was home to
the crews of the U.S. Lifesaving Service, now known as the U.S. Coast
Guard for 37 years. Once scheduled for demolition, local residents
rallied to save it, and the lighthouse is now considered an historical
landmark. Admission is free and features a 20 minute video. The
lighthouse is open Mon.-Thurs. from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Tours and

NYE
BEACH in Newport is a home to galleries, restaurants, the Performing Arts Center
and is a great place to walk and browse thru dozens of shops. Located west
of Hwy 101 from the center of Newport, take Olive St west. Several fine
hotels are within easy walking distance of the Nye Beach area.

BIKING
THE OREGON COAST, traveling the Oregon Coast by bicycle is becoming more and
more of a popular way to see the coast. It is advisable to travel north to
south in the summer months as there is a steady north wind, which works as a
tailwind. Scenic state parks with camping and/or picnic sites dot the 300
mile route from Astoria to Brookings. SILETZ
BAY in South Lincoln City has many recreational, lodging and restaurant
opportunities with sheltered sandy beaches, shallow water access, fishing,

THE SILETZ
INDIAN POW WOW is held the 2nd weekend in August every year in Siletz, with
native crafts, food, dancing competitions and other activities. Wander
through a world of teepees and vendors selling beads, blankets, clothing and
other crafts and try BBQ salmon on cedar planks cooked over an open fire pit in
authentic fashion.
AQUARIUM VILLAGE, located just south of the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is
a unique collection of craft shops, including a glass blowing gallery and many other businesses.
OLALLA VALLEY GOLF
